you probably use the classic 'black tea' right? well herbal teas are nigh on never made with actual tea tree/bush leaves. they use other plants like orange peel, lemon peel, lime peel, spearmint, peppermint, chamomile, hibiscus flowers, mint leaves etc. and they often have scents and flavors blended in the teas due to what is in the mix. some herbal teas taste slightly sweet even without sugar and most herbal blends are milder and not as bitter and harsh as the classic 'black tea'.

i myself (when i'm not drinking french roast coffee or black milk tea like i believe you are) prefer Earl Grey tea, just like Capt. Picard on Star Trek: The Next Generation liked. it is a mild black tea but it is blended with the essential oil extract of the bergamot citrus fruit's rind (Citrus bergamia Risso). this specific 'orange' is most often recognized by perfumers and cosmetics chemists who use the bergamot essential oil due to its distinctive scent. the bergamot in Earl Grey makes it very distinctive by scent and taste and both of these are VERY pervasive while steeping. ;) sometimes when i ask for a bag or two of Earl Grey at a resturaunt with 'hot teas' on the menu the server will ask, "Are you sure sir? That is a..." and i of course politely interrupt and explain myself. ;) some folks sitting around me might not like my cup or two of Earl Grey due to the bergamot clashing with their own meals or drinks. Earl Grey is not unlike that one lady you probably know who smells like she's taken a hot-tub soak in her perfume for a half-hour or so. ;)
